Our Mission: Together We Change Lives, And That Includes Yours.
About the Role
As Practice Manager at our Wacol Domestic Hospital, you’ll play an important role in supporting the smooth, safe and effective day-to-day operation of the hospital. Working closely with senior leaders and senior veterinary nurses, you’ll help ensure teams are well supported, workflows run efficiently while animals, customers, and the community receive high-quality care.
This role focuses on people leadership, coordination and operational support. You’ll contribute to planning and implementation across areas such as rostering, workflows, compliance and communication, helping bring structure and consistency to hospital operations while working collaboratively within the broader leadership framework.
This is a hands-on, team-oriented role suited to someone who enjoys leading people, improving how things work and contributing to a positive, well-organised hospital environment.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an organised, approachable and people-focused leader with a strong understanding of how veterinary hospitals operate. You’re comfortable working in a busy, clinical environment and enjoy supporting teams through coordination, clear communication and practical problem-solving.
You work well alongside others, value collaboration and are confident contributing ideas and solutions, while balancing operational efficiency with a genuine focus on people and pets. You’re calm under pressure, adaptable, and motivated by creating a positive workplace culture where people feel supported and care standards remain high.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Coordinate and guide nursing, reception and grooming teams, trainees and volunteers at Wacol.
- Contribute to rostering, workload planning and daily scheduling in partnership with senior team members.
- Help maintain effective workflows and resource allocation across nursing and triage areas.
- Contribute to the review, improvement and embedding of operational processes and procedures.
- Play a key role in induction, onboarding and day-to-day people management activities.
- Contribute to the planning and facilitation of monthly team meetings and broader team forums.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to monitor budgets, expenditure and operational performance.
- Identify and contribute to initiatives that improve efficiency, cost control and service delivery.
- Coordinate ordering, stock control and inventory management activities.
- Ensure day-to-day practices align with WHS, infection control, radiation safety and clinical protocols.
- Maintain clear documentation, procedures and consistent operating standards.
- Champion a positive, professional and safety-focused team culture.
- Act as a point of escalation for operational or people-related matters, working with leaders to resolve issues promptly.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Previous experience in veterinary practice management (preferred) or at least 5+ years of veterinary nursing experience in a senior role.
- Strong leadership, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
- Proficiency with practice management software and business administration.
- A client-focused mindset and a passion for animal welfare.
- Confidence making decisions and the ability to work independently.
- Alignment with RSPCA Queensland’s values and commitment to animal welfare,
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including manual handling (minimum 10kg lift).
